” Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep ” by Philip K. Dick is a science fiction story originally published in 1968 .

Set in 2021 after a World War nearly destroyed all life on Earth . There is a profession that has people ” retiring ” androids that escaped from colonies on other planets … ” retiring ” being a nice term for destroying of course . For most of the story we follow a bounty hunter named Rick Deckard and his search for a few escaped androids that have killed people and have seriously injured another bounty hunter . Rick needs to get them all in the same day or else they’ll probably never be found . This is a particularly daunting task seeing as no one has ever taken this many down in a single day as they’re the most advanced and are almost indistinguishable from human beings . The one obvious flaw being the lack of empathy . This is a tale of murder , androids , opera , cults , fake animals , fatigue , and the importance of human emotion . Read it if you dare .

For those of you who don’t know , this is the story that ” Blade Runner ” is based off of so if you like that you should definitely read this . Personally, I think this is one of the greatest science fiction stories that I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading . It’s a classic science fiction morality tale and it needs to be read .
