Summary : A long time ago a young girl named Gillan was on the run from the warriors of Alizon and somehow ends up at Abbey Norstead , a place of relative peace . We meet her as an adult with little to no memories of her childhood , being raised up mostly as a herbalist for the Abbey but she has got a problem . She never really belonged and even more devastating … she’s bored as hell . A solution presents itself , a group of woman are being sent off to be wives of a traveling group of wereriders and one of the woman don’t want to do it . Gillan sneaks in and replaces the scared woman and marries Herrel , a cat like were rider . This causes some tension as Herrel is considered the least of the wereriders yet he got picked over one of the elites of the group and soon it’s discovered that she has magic which scares the other riders . Now we enter a clash of ideals , illusions , and swords as things only escalate from there .

Review : So admittedly I came into this with the wrong expectations . I bought it in a set of three with the two previous “Witch World” novels and assumed that this would be a direct sequel to the previous entry . It’s not , this book is a stand alone set in a different part of the world with some time having passed after the previous books . I don’t recall any characters from the previous books being mentioned but there’s always a possibility that I just missed them . With all of that out of the way … in terms of world building this is probably one of the better books in the series , the relationship between Gillan and Herrel is interesting ( but admittedly I was missing Simon and Jaelithe ) , and the group dynamics of the wereriders felt authentic . There were some parts of this that left me confused as there are significant portions in the book that we are dealing with illusions and they were a bit of a struggle for my dyslexic ass . Overall , this a high recommendation for any fantasy fans . Get it guys !

  1. I like how your top 10 includes Clive Barker and Darcy Branwyn. Both solid choices.

That aside, 1965. Wow. It’s amazing how just a few years changes how we as people write down our words. I can usually follow most of it, but occasionally run into issues that I had to stare at for a few minutes trying to figure it out.
