Every story begins in blood : a squalling baby yanked from the womb , bathed in mucus and half a quart of their mother’s blood . But not too many stories end in blood these days . Usually it’s a return to the hospital and a dry , quiet death surrounded by machines after a heart attack in the driveway , a stroke on the beach , or a slow fade from lung cancer . “
Summary : Patricia Campbell is a good suburban house wife : Her one activity outside of the house is a book club with the other local housewives primarily reading exploitative crime novels . One day she gets a new neighbour ( James Harris ) and he charms pretty much everyone around him … which is a bad thing because Patricia suspects him of being a drug dealer , a pedophile , and possibly a vampire . She gets her book club together to try to get evidence of the first two things at least and they courageously stop at the first sign of pressure from their husbands . Don’t worry though , a ghost convinces Patricia to try again 3 years later .

But sometimes Patricia wanted to be challenged . Sometimes she yearned to see what she was made of . Sometimes she remembered being a nurse before she married Carter and wandered if she could still reach into a wound and hold an artery closed with her fingers , or if she still had the courage to pull a fish hook out of the child’s eye lid . Sometimes she craved a little danger . And that was why she had book club . “
Review : This book is an okay vampire book . Just okay , I was expecting more from it because I liked Grady Hendrix’s “Paperbacks from Hell” and heard good things online . The plot starts off strong but loses itself halfway through and only somewhat redeems itself at the end . The characters all came off as unlikable to me .
When she tried to perform CPR on him he had looked sick and weak and at least ten years older . When she saw him the following week he’d positively glowed with health . What had happened in between ? Francinne had gone missing . Had he eaten her ? Sucked her blood ? He’d certainly done something . “
