Summary : The local Duke celebrates his victory … by attempting to kill the mercenaries that gained him his position . He almost succeeds but that almost is going to cost him . Monza , one of the mercenaries , badly injured but still alive starts to gather a crew hell bent on killing the Duke and everyone that supports him . Barbarians , poisoners , drunks , prisoners , and much more . Betrayal is stacked upon betrayal , don’t trust anything here .

Review : This novel was my introduction to Joe Abercrombie and … it’s a pretty damn good introduction . I’ve been hearing his name mentioned a bunch in fantasy circles and I’m glad I finally caved in and read . The characters are unique , the plot never feels slow despite the length , the action is bloody brilliant , and the book is surprisingly funny . I’ll have to check out his other stuff now . Go buy it folks !
