“You are welcome , most noble Sorceress , to the land of the Munchkins . We are so grateful to you for having killed Wicked Witch of the East , and for settling our people from bondage . “

Summary : You know this story or at least the basics . A girl from Kansas named Dorothy and her dog Toto get sucked up in a cyclone and land in the mythical land of Oz . In the process she ends up killing the Wicked Witch of the East by accident and frees the Munchkins . She thinks this is all fine and dandy but she needs to get back home to her family . In her journey to get back to Kansas she takes silver slippers off a dead person ( technically not theft ) , saves a living scarecrow from eternal humiliation , helps a cursed woodsman whom cut off all their body parts and replaced them with tin , punches a lion in the face then befriends him , meets the wizard of Oz , fights another witch , deals with flying monkeys , builds a balloon , encounters a giant spider , runs from Hammerheads , meets royalty of both the mice and porcelain variety … Damn this girl has a lot to deal with .
“No matter how dreary and gray our homes are , we people of flesh and blood would rather live there than in any other country , be it ever so beautiful . There is no place like home .”

Review : You know … this is pretty hardcore for a childrens story but I love it . The characters and situations have a great balance of silliness , adventure , and a taste of danger . I loved the movie but I do wish to see an adaption one of the story that includes the scenes and characters that were cut out of the famous movie . Both the movie and the book deserve to be called classics . Check them both out !
“It is useless to fight people with shooting heads ; no one can stand them .”
