Book Review – Perfect Blue : Complete Metamorphosis by Yoshikazu Takeuchi

Summary : To give you an idea of what you’re getting into with this book starts with a kid being kidnapped and skinned . The story revolves around a pop singer ( also known as Idols ) named Kirigoe Mima as she works to change her image from cute to sexy in an effort to boost her status . The studio and her friends are behind the image change but she has one obsessive fan whom is not so happy about it . In fact he starts calling her , sending her letters , explaining as much and when that doesn’t scare her enough to stop … well lets just say he makes sure there is skin in the game .

“You know , sexy . Dirty . We had the planning meeting today . Bon-chan said that if I’m going to do a photo book , I’ve got to really go for it .”

Review : This was way more intense than I thought it would be . Like damn , I knew some stuff was going down but at least 3 people got skinned alive … so anyways this was a great book . You really got to see the inside of a lot of the characters , not just skin deep . But seriously though both the psychological and body horror elements are well done , the main characters are interesting , and the pacing is smooth . If you got a strong stomach then go for it .
