“If Joel Braxton hadn’t drawed a knife whilst I was brating his head agen a spruce log , I reckon I wouldn’t of had that quarrell with Glory McGraw and things might of turned out different town at they did”
Summary : This is the tale of one Breckinridge Elkins . A tall powerful hillbilly with just the worse luck . He wanders from one bad misunderstanding to another often leading to over the top fights . Whether it’s taming horses , getting mistaken for a criminal , searching for stolen goods that turn out not to be stolen in the first place … wouldn’t want to be this guy .
“If I’d ever hit Alexander that hard it would have busted his skull like a egg — and Alexander had a awful thick skull , even for a mule .”
Review : This is one of the funniest books I’ve read in a while . It probably helps that I’ve met people who talked like this before so I’m just putting their faces here . If you need a quick laugh go ahead and get it . Keep in mind it’s an old book and the racial language is not the most enlightened but if you like Blazing Saddles you should like this .
“I says to myself I rides him or the buzzards pick my bones .”
