Let The Right One In John Ajvide Lindqvist

He was the one who had moved them in . The man and his daughter . He wasn’t going to tell anyone about it , not for as long as he lived . “

Summary : In Cold War era Sweden a series of murders occurs and a certain 12 year old boy named Oskar is obsessed with them . You see Oskar is experiencing pretty brutal bullying on a daily basis and he doesn’t feel like he can do anything about it . That changes one day when he meets his neighbour , a girl named Eli ( well not quite a girl and not really Eli , it’s complicated ) . As the two bond they strengthen each other to confront their issues . Wow this sounds like a good coming of age story about the power of friendship … if you leave out the fact that it has vampires , rape , forced eunuchization of a child , and a whole lot of mental illness issues .

He got up and left the bathroom ; Didn’t wipe up the drop of blood . Let someone see it , let them wonder . Let them think someone had been killed here , because someone had been killed here . And for the hundredth time . “

Review : Oh boy , so let me start this by saying this is a great book . The dark and cold atmosphere combined with great child psychology makes for an impactful narrative . It left me feeling the same way “The Ruins” by Scott Smith did , meaning I was pretty bummed out for a few days afterward in a good way if that makes any sense . That being said the book is not for everyone , would recommend only to people strong of heart .

I don’t know . That’s how it is with me at any rate . And then when I wake up I’m … little again . And weak . That’s when I need help . That’s maybe why I’ve been able to survive . Because I’m small . And people want to help me . But … for very different reasons . “
