Not one of our castles but has its spectre , not one of our cottages but owns its familiar spirit. Among rich and poor alike , in castle and cot equally , the two principles of good and ill are acknowledged . “

Summary : A Polish lady named Hedwig sets off to a monastery in the Carpathian mountains to avoid being killed . Little does she know she just ran into a bigger problem . Two brothers who were already feuding over land now feud over her . Lets see what happens in this tale of sibling rivalry , sword fighting , and vampires of course .

The situation was very seriously yet , inured as I was from childhood to scenes of strife and bloodshed , I could examine my surroundings without a detail escaping me . “

Review : This is a short story that packs a whole lot in it . So lets just say this , Dumas knows how to write a plot filled with awesome action scenes , captivating dialogue , and a heavy atmosphere . I enjoyed it and I think you will too.

You can form no conception of the effect these words produced on me . This declaration of love , made in the present instead of the past tense , this loves you instead of loved you , this passion from the world of the dead singling me out among the living , made a profound and terrible impression on my mind . “
